There is a dreamy, poetic feel to this love story between the vampire Justine and a mortal, Keith. Justine has been undead for a long time, but her memories are fragmented and difficult for her to retain. She rarely kills, but when she does, Keith disposes of the bodies. A somber mood pervades this novel. Life and unlife have many difficulties. For Justine and Keith the reawakening of a vampire accidentally created by Justine brings about a traumatic climax. |

One member of Savannah's ultra-rich Danilov family is happy to welcome distant cousin Alex from Europe. Margaret, now eighty years old, knows he is a vampire born almost 1,000 years ago. However, two centuries earlier he had a mortal wife and children. The Danilovs are the descendents of this marriage. When Margaret dies, Barron, who had assumed he would be heir, promises to break Alex, who inherited almost everything. This does not worry our vampire hero, but he is concerned about the seductive charms of two Danilov women, Lydia and Sonya, both of whom bring his Blood Hunger to fever pitch. Adding to his problems is the evil Suldris whose terrible empire Alex destroyed some 400 years ago. Suldris finds an unwitting ally in Lydia, whose desperate hunger for Alex leads her into a pact with this cruel mage. The repercussions from this terrible bond carry through both novels. |

There are two bright spots in Alex's life. The first is Elizabeth, a woman who knows his nature yet has no fear of him. Instead she wholeheartedly gives Alex her love. The second is Justin, the teenage son of Sonya and Barron and a young man desperately in need of fatherly love and acceptance. Alex happily fills that role. Good character development makes these romanticized vampire novels worth reading. |
